As a counsellor I aim to help you understand the difficulties you experience and manage your life more successfully. I provide a confidential place where you can feel supported, accepted, and safe enough to begin to talk about yourself. In working together, I will use my knowledge and experience as a counsellor to support you with whatever brought you to counselling so that a way forward may become clearer to you.
Counselling is definitely not a case of one size fits all. Some people come with a specific problem that they wish to address. We may decide that brief solution-focused therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), will be the main approach, with a limited number of sessions.
On the other hand, some people's difficulties are rooted in their early childhood experiences. This may need longer term therapy as we examine childhood hurts and the impact they have in the present.
My work with people is tailor made for the individual and is always informed by my knowledge of different counselling therapies.
I am experienced in both short and long term counselling, including working with people who have suffered from trauma and abuse. Over the time I have been a practising therapist I have come to understand that counselling success is closely linked to the quality of the relationship established between myself and my client. Building good rapport with the people I work with is central to my work. I aim for the relationship to be as open and honest as possible and I always welcome feedback.
